Mambo Jambo

Sorry about not putting up a post last night. I actually feel asleep after returning back to my room. Anyway, yesterday was Youth Sunday at church. Those days always seem to be busy for me. I don't know if it's because I want everything to be perfect or if I care too much, but everything went smooth. The teens did a lot of work, and were great. The guest speaker was great too. After church, I had my monthly family dinner with my dad's side of the family. I've really begun to enjoy these more and more. Especially since we are all really close. I love all of my family...and these dinners are a great time for us to catch up.

Today, I had class, and then had work. Nothing special. Atleast nothing I remember. I ran an erran after work and decided to drive my car back to my room to drop the stuff off and then return my car to the parking lot. I had to bike back like usual...but it sure looked like a wicked storm was coming my way. I biked as fast as I could...and as soon as I got back the skies let loose. Thank God I wasnt still biking...I was still in my nice work clothes...and I would have gotten really wet. So tonight for dinner I had some more of my dollar store food. I cooked some steak, pork chop wrapped in bacon, and some mozerella sticks. The steak wasnt too bad and the mozzerella sticks were really good. The pork chop however...i didnt even attempt to eat. I cooked it on the grill...and the bacon didnt get cooked but the pork was over done. I also had some milk from the dollar store. Still am wonder how great that tasted...but I'll let you know later. Just hanging out tonite...I finished up my final episode of The Office reruns tonite. I've been watching them for about a month now. Probably one of my favorite shows on TV right now. But through Netflixs I was able to watch all of the episodes from the very beginning. Some things are even better the second time around. Now I have to find another show to watch. I think it's going to be either Saved by the Bell or A-Team. Havent really seen what other ones are out there. I might actually see what Hero's is all about. Never really got into that show...but I can watch it online.

Dinner...and a Murder

Well tonite I had my Murder Mystery Dinner at Blue Hens for Christ. It was actually kinda a weird night. Last years was better...but it wasnt bad. The theme was medieval. It was kinda good...I good do what I do best...and that was act...or lie...its one of those two. If you've never been to one or dont know what they are...basically you dress up going with the theme, and ur given a role that you have to play with hints..clues...guidelines...and background information. Someone dies...and u have to figure out who done it. I didnt kill someone...but I also didnt figure out who did it. Some people that were supposed to be there and had some influentally parts so we didnt get that info. I did take along time however 7-11.

Earlier in the day, I went out with my dad for breakfast...we dont get a lot of time to spend together, so I figured that was nice. Afterwards we dropped off yard waste, and then I washed my car for the first time. It didnt really need it, but I kinda wanted to show my parents that I care about this car. Man did it sparkle. I then met up with Pastor Ben. We went up to pick up the special speaker for tomorrow's morning service. Real nice guy. He's the National Youth Director of the Assembly of God in Bangladesh and it was pretty cool to get the know the guy for a couple of hours. One of his bags didnt come in, so we had to file a claim. But it was weird cuz one of the workers came up to us and was like...what church do u guys go to? Afterwards we got talking and I felt we really made an impact on his life. If the speaker's bag didnt show up...this guy never would have met us. Divine Appointment. Anyway...thats all I got. Youth Day tomorrow...should be a good day.

As the seasons...jump?!?

So today was a very hot day. I beginning to wonder what ever happened to Spring...my favorite season. It seems like it just went from winter to summer on us. I slept in a little bit today so I didnt make it to class. I met with my discipleship group for a chance to catch up on some of some of the lessons that we've missed. Afterwards I went to work...and then got to take a nice little drive down to Smyrna. I took my car down and its was such a nice drive. After my trip down I stopped by a costume store to buy an outfit for a party tomorrow night. I'll tell you all about that tomorrow. After work I went and got dinner at the Daffy Deli. Great place in Newark to grab a bite. Had youth group and it was an eventful one. About 7:45 the fire alarm went off in the church. Everyone had no clue what was going on. I quickly acted and started moving people out of the building incase there was really a fire. Everyone was out of the building in about 2 minutes. Not bad for about 75 people spread all over the church. After about 15 minutes PB finally got the alarm turned off. But we told everyone to still stay out of the building. Good thing we did cuz about 5 minutes later a fire truck showed up. They came in...check to make sure everything was ok...and then headed out. We then brought everyone back in and went on with the night. Some how one of the "In case of fire, Pull" thingy's were activated...either by a malfunction...or by a basketball that hit it. No biggie. However, it was good to see what happened when we were pressured to get out of the building. Everyone knew what to do. It was a great practice run incase there ever was a fire. All in all it ended up being a good night.

If it says "fish" on the wraper it has to be fish

So...today was ok. Had class and a meeting with my advisor to go over my schedule next year. Not doing to bad, as long as I keep my grades up. Also had an exam which really was pretty bad. Everyone came out of that exam shaking their heads...obviously I wasnt the only one that had trouble with it. I also had band practice today...and this was the first time that I felt we actually sounded pretty good. And I am really starting to enjoy some of these songs. Its a good thing cuz the concert is next week. I had some of my dollar store food today: the tilapia and the onion rings that I bought. Surprisingly enough...the tilapia was really good. Just as good as any other I've had. The onion rings o the other hand...were not. They...I dont even know how to describe them. But they werent that great...but how many people have actually heard of good onion rings that you can cook in the oven. Didnt go to basketball tonite...was really exhausted from being up late studying and just from the busy week. Decided to lay down for the night...and watch the boob tube.

Phillies are doing better this week...going 4-2 since last Thursday. Today's game was really something special with 4 homeruns in the game...maybe this is what the summer is going to look like. With Jimmy Rollins, and Shane Victorino out for a little bit of time...you really got to see what the phil's bench looks like. During today's game 4 of the opening day starters did not start. It was good to see these guys get time...including two of my favorite Phillies: Chris Coste and Greg Dobbs. Coste had 4 hits including a homerun today. This weekend series against the NY Mets is going to be a great weekend of baseball.

Flyers put on an amazing performance tonight against the Washington Capitals. Tons of hits, lots of action, great game all together. After going into 2OT they ended up winning it with some great puck movement and by just putting the put on the net. They have the momentum and the series lead (3-1) going back to Washington for game 5. They are in a great seat to win this series. This was probably one of the best hockey games I have ever seen in my life. Was very enjoyable to watch...and very physical.

Sixers are not on a good roll going into the playoffs losing their last few games. They will have a really tough matchup against Detroit coming up this weekend. Detroit def. has the better team, but if the Sixers can go back to the high flying team that they were they might have a chance. Detroit has been in the playoffs, and have won many games, and have the experience on their team. I think that Detroit will win in 6 games here.

Not a lot of Eagles talk. Same situation with the Soul.

Have fun....Be safe....Enjoy life

Central Park

So today was not a bad day. Had class at 9 this morning, and then after class I went to my discipleship group. Had some good discussion. After class I went to work, and once again, I was needed first thing. Like I said before, its great to be needed. After work, I came back, and got started on my long night of work. Got done my one thing of homework, still have another, and also some studying to do for my exam tomorrow. My eyes and brain are starting to hurt. Should be a pretty late night.

So, one of the guys that I went on the cruise with, sent out an email today about Royal Carribean's new cruise ship that is in the process of being built. The whole ship is built around the idea of having an open air park in the middle of the ship. It sounds like a pretty cool idea if you ask me. This new ship will also have some pretty amazing features on it. Check out these pics:

I dont know...but I'm really excited for it...cant wait to go.
Until next time,

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice

So today was not too bad of a day. It was extreme nice out today, and today was the first day that I wore shorts. I had 4 classes today...not bad day in classes...learned a little. But I got really excited when I realized that I didnt have a lab that I was supposed to do today. So after my last I walked to the 5 & 10 on Main Street and bought a used tuxedo for my concert next week. I thought $40 wasnt bad for a used tux...that was still in pretty good shape. After that I went to the Dollar Store. I had saw this thing online about making meals from dollar store items. I decided to see what I could get. I was shocked at what was there. Tilapia, Salmon, Eggs, Flounder, Pork wraped in bacon, Steak, Luhch meat. Now I dont know how good these things are going to be, but I still decided that it would be worth it to buy a few of these things. Spent $18 and I was surprised that it only cost that much. I got a ton of stuff. I'll keep you posted on how these things actually taste. After the "spending spree" I went to Blue Hens for Christ (the devotional group I go to) for dinner to celebrate all of the April B-days. Watch the Flyers and Phillies win within a couple of minutes. All in all a great day. I have some homework to do tonite...and then getting some sleep.

Now onto my National Sports Report:
First the AL East...Surprisingly, this division is not headlined by the two powerhouses: Boston Red Soxs and the New York Yankees. The Baltimore Orioles are in the lead right now and Toronto is very close behind. But I'll tell you right now, it is still very early. In the end the big teams will come out on top (meaning the Red Sox). However, dont be surprised if the wild card teams comes from this division. And don't be surprised if that team is not the Yankees. Both Toronto and Baltimore will give the Yankees a good run at the spot. Toronto i think will end up being the wild card team, because they have the better team. The past 2 nights I have stayed up watching the Bosoxs and they look like a great team. They're pitching staff is one of the best, they have a great closer and depth in their bullpen, and have one of the better offenses in the league. However, where they could run into trouble is with David Ortiz and JD Drew. Ortiz is getting pretty old and is in a really big slump. He had been pulled out of the lineup on Sunday night. And still continues to struggle. JD Drew, Im not a big fan of...he'll get hits here and there, but he is just out there for stats.

On the NFL Draft...I really dont see any big immediate impacts at the big play positions: QB, RB or WR. Darren McFadden is not going to be the running back that everyone thinks that he might be. He will end up being like Reggie Bush, a really good college running back but not a good pro level running back. I know its still early to judge Bush, but so far, thats what he has become. After McFadden, there might be one other RB, that will make an impact in years to come and that is Rashard Mendenhall from Illinois. He looked really good at the NFL Combine, and I see him being a top 15 pick. With the QB position, I would really like to see Delaware's Joe Flacco be drafted very high in the draft. He is being projected as the #2 QB but I see him as being better than that. Matt Ryan from Boston College just does not impress me. I see Flacco going to a couple of teams: Miami, Atlanta, NY Jets, Chicago, or Baltimore. I think Baltimore likes Matt Ryan more, but I the long run, I'll take Flacco. He compares greatly to Pittsburgh's Ben Rothlisberger. At the Wide Receiver position, I dont think there is anyone that will make an immediate impact on a team. A lot of the receivers are small but eventually some of them will make impacts. There are a lot of good Offensive Lineman in this years draft, including one that had been talked about of being the first pick in the draft. Also in this draft is former William Penn High School lineman, Jeff Otah. My cousin, Jon, laughed when I told him that he was considered to be one of the best lineman in the draft. My cousin actually faced him every day during high school football practice. According to him, he is very lasy, and must have gotten his act together in order to be this good. Might come back to be about the same later in life. I love the tight end position, but in the draft, it really isnt important to analyze. Next week, I'll give you my take on the defensive side of the draft as well as special teams.

Finally, my NASCAR report. Hendrick Motorsports got its first win of the year after completely dominating the leage last year. Its hard to believe that this is only the first because of the all-star cast that they have with 3 of the best drivers in the series, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. They have really struggle so far this year, either having bad luck with a good car, or having a car that isnt competitive. They wont stay down forever, so the rest of the league better watch out.
I have to say that after years of not being a big fan of Mark Martin, I am beginning to realize what a great driver and class act he is. He is only driving a half schedule this year, while getting ready to go into retirement. But I want for him to win. Just because its been so long since he won. I think that Toyota being in this sport is a joke, especially since there is only one team that is competitive in it. I guess it will just take a couple of years to come through but we'll see. Its good to see the sport continuing to grow especially with the addition to so many drivers coming from other leagues to come race in NASCAR. NASCAR is off this week, allowing the drivers to get plenty of rest before the long stretch of races coming up. They will not get a week off until the middle of July, giving us 3 full months of racing including my favorite types...night races.
Well...thats all for tonite, I hope everyone has a good day tomorrow

Day of Rest

Like every Sunday, the morning started out with church. Had worship team practice at 8:30 like usual, and then church a 10. Interesting stuff happened at church today, but I can't talk about it. In case your worried...everything is ok. After church, there was a meeting for this missions trip that the youth group is going on. I am not going, but my sister was out of town so I had to go in her place. After the meeting, my dad and I went to Old Country Buffet for lunch. Hadn't been there in a while. It wasnt bad, but its not what I would want to eat everyday. Phillies and Flyers played this afternoon so I sat down in front of the plasma and just rested. Dozed on and off. Choir practice was at 4...should be an interesting program for Memorial Day weekend. After practice, I decided to head back to my room. I was really tired, and I know that isnt a good excuse to skip church...but I need to be well rested for the week. Probably just going to lay down for the rest of the night...Yankees vs. Red Sox's is on...always love a great rivalry. Class tomorrow, followed by work, and then Young Adults later. Check for a full update tomorrow night.

Before I end this blog, I made a big mistake by not including 1 team into my Philly sports blog: the Soul, Philly's Arena Football team. This team is actually undefeated right now...who can believe that. I actually stayed up late to watch this game last night...and I was impressed. Football is always great. Arena league just isnt very popular to people. I went to a game once, pretty fun...might go to one again...It's definetly cheaper than going to a NFL game. Anyway, after the game I was pretty impressed by the Soul's QB. After an amazing comeback win, he was the player of the game and was the one that the tv commentators wanted to interview. After many sports games (atleast football), players from both teams go to the middle of the field and pray. This player, actually called over to his teammates and said "hey, dont start with out me" during the middle of his interview. He then rushed through his interview...thanking God for his performance, and everything else in life, and ran over to join in the prayer. Now eventhough his teammates had finished. He continued to pray. This really impressed me. I mean, if a sports player rushes off of a national tv interview to pray, do we have any excuse not to. I guess it made me realize that pray is important part of life...and no matter what is going on, you should do it.

Congrats to Trevor Immelman on the Masters win. Also If anyone wants me to do a report on your favorite team for my "National Sports blog" post a comment or shoot me an email...and I give you my take on your favorite team. For now I'll start with the Red Sox (Shawn) and whatever else I want to do. You let me know...you get first priority.

Thats all I got...Peace

250 and Counting

Well, today we celebrate the City of Newark's 250th year in existance. The marching band had to be a part of the parade. We had to show up right after mid day, so I slept in most of the morning...after all I do love my sleep. Dad brought home Mcdonalds for breakfast, and it was definetly good. I then ran back to my room to shower and such cuz I had all my clothes there. I got to the music buildings and man was it good to feel like it was football season again. All the band there (well most of them) and getting ready just like it was game day. The parade wasnt bad except for the fact that one girl in my section puked...it wasnt pretty. Actually, I was really hot and I realized that I'm not in great condition to do this out of season. Afterwards I had a workshop to help with my audition to be apart of the marching band field staff next year. Then I was supposed to go to a "Guys night out" with the group I do bible study with, but the place we were having it at, the son was sick. So I had nothing to do for the night. I decided to go home, I picked up some Little Ceaser's, and ploped on the couch and watched the Phillies, Sixers, and NASCAR race. Should be a really relaxing night and I'm looking forward to it.

An Uneventful Day

Today was not very exciting. I woke up a little late, and took a shower and made it to class a little late. No biggie. Then I rode my bike to my new car and drove that to work. I love that car so much right now. Hopefully that will never change. I walked into work and I felt like everything was being thrown in my direction. Being the nice guy that I am I always say good morning to everyone I see. After my good mornings 3 people all needed stuff done. I have to say that I always feels good to be needed. So I got to work on that stuff and then made deliveries to a couple of locations. I actually got off work at like 5:30...so it was nice to have a little extra time. Afterall, any extra time means extra money which means car payments. After work I had worship team practice for Sunday morning. It's always good to practice. Which I definetly need to do more of. Then I headed over to the UD women's lacrosse game because I had gone to so many athletic events that I now got a free drawstring backpack. I was pretty excited. I am a big fan of free stuff...almost to the extent of not mattering what it is. Afterwards I went out to dinner with my parents. All in all not a bad day. My mom also took my new car down to get it cleaned by the dealer and other stuff that had to be done to it. It looks so clean and so beautiful right now. Too bad its going to get dirty with tomorrows rain storm and all the pollen around.

Right now I'm trying to get my XM radio fix in my car. Free 3 month subscription works one minute...then it shut off. Like I said...anything that is free I'll take. But now that I think about it...Is anything really free?

Peace Out my homies
K to the J to the T (or if your not gansta like me in my new car...KJT)

You Gotta Believe

Today was the first day that felt like spring for once and boy was it nice. It actually reminded me baseball, and boy was it a great day for that. Unfortunately, the phillies lost in 12 innings after a seeing eye base hit scored Jose Reyes with 2 outs. But I have to say, I am actually not upset with the phillies...at least not yet. This year has actually started out with the phillies being somewhere close to the .500 record wise. They have started out 4-6 which compared to other Aprils, is pretty good. Pat "the Bat" Burrel is actually hitting pretty well, and the pitching staff, while they have been shaky, isnt completely taking the team out of the picture. There are only 3 things that bother me at this time:

1. The recent injury to the team leader Jimmy Rollins. If this is a lingering injury or he has to sit out for more than a couple of games, this could really hurt the team. Eric Bruntlett is not a good enough replacement for him...actually, should he even be on this roster.

2. Batting average of 3 of the teams starters: Shane Victorino, Carlos Ruiz, and Ryan Howard. These guys are off to a cold start, and they need to improve fast. Shane keeps poping out, I havent actually watch Carlos enough to give you what is wrong, and Ryan has struck out 13 times in just 32 at bats. All this is inexcusable for a major league player.

3. E is for Errors. This team, which in the past has been a very good fielding team, has comited 13 errors for the season. And in 2 games this year they have had 4 errors each. I know this is cliche to say, but "Defense wins games." The real saying is "Defense wins championships" but werent not there yet. Their fielding needs to get better, and then they will start getting better.

Well its playoff years for 2 of our Philly teams so far this year: Flyers and Sixers. The Flyers are just an average team at best...and I really don't see them winning it all this year. I will say that they will win the first series against the Washington Capitals. But after that, it all depends on the play of our goalie(s). I really think that Biron will shine, but we will be out matched by some really good teams out there. With the Sixers, what else is there to say but "Oh My." This team looks really great. It is so much fun and entertaining to watch this team. They are moving a lot quicker, and their young players are getting a lot of time to play. I really like them in the playoffs, eventhough we're not there yet. Couple more games left in the season, and I am really expecting big things from this group. This team is going to be great for years to come with a core of Iguodala, Miller, Young, Williams, and Carney.

Now to the Eagles. I don't really keep up with a lot of their stuff during the offseason, but the draft is coming up so I like to. This years draft I really see a lot of holes that need to be filled. Personally, I would love to see the Eagles get some type of big wide out either through the draft or a trade. Other needs for this team are offensive line, defensive line, safety, and kick returner. I would love to see them pick up all of these put that is unlikely. If they do go with a wide reciever in the draft, I want him to be able to return kicks. We really need something better than Reno Mahe. Great to see the Eagles active in the off season picking up the best cornerback out there in free agency in Asante Samuel. Should be a better year for the Eagles coming up, I really look for Brian Westbrook to shine.

Now i know this isnt philly, but I have to put a little plug in there for my University of Delaware Fightin Blue Hens. Joe Flacco, Joe Flacco, Joe Flacco. His draft stock is soring right now, and I am so excited. To see a fellow Hen getting so much hype by the media is great. In fact, ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper has Flacco now in his top 25 players in the draft. I am so excited for the draft now. If only I saw him on campus...maybe I could become a member of his posse...once he becomes famous, that would be great.

Alright, well just for a breif overview of my day. I woke up, went to class, had lunch, went to class, and then had symphonic band. Not a big fan of it this year and I probably wont do it again. After band, I went and got my car, took it for a spin to come back to my room for dinner. Afterwards, I went and play basketball at church. I didnt have too bad of a night. I am not the best guy out there...but I hustle, and do get some points, steals, and rebounds. Tomorrow I have class and then work. Hopefully its not a boring day.

Well...thats all I have for today...feel free to leave comments...and hopefully I'll talk to all of you soon.

From here to there

So...today was pretty much like anyother Wednesday. Woke up, showered, went to class, went to work. And thats when things changed. You see for the past 3 years I have been driving a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Cierra. That car is as old as me!!! So recently I've been having a ton of trouble with the engine. And it finally got to the point that it was beginning to be dangerous to drive. So with the advice of my parents...we started looking for a new car. At first I was looking at a used car, but my parents felt it would be better to get something newer. So tonight...I bought my first car. I like it...actually I love it. Its a Pontiac G5, it drives great (so far), gets good gas mileage, and is a little more modern. Here is a generic picture of it:

I know you might think that the color is a little wild...but trust me...its hott. I love the color, and I actually have always liked this color. This picture doesn't do full justice of the car though...so ill put some up once I get some. Its going to be nice to drive around and not have to think if my car is going to die on me...or if im ever gonna make it to work cuz it wont start back up. I am so excited right now. You'll all see me around in the coming days.

So, thats about all the fun I had in my day today. I have some homework to do for a couple of classes so im gonna get going on that. Tomorrow is going to be my first day of "Philly sports" blogs...it will include my take on the Sixers, Flyers, Phillies, and Eagles. I'll throw in a couple of other comments about my day. Hopefully this turns out to be a good time.

Until next time....

So today, while I was sitting in my room, I decided that I think it would be fun to start a blog. I know that everyone wants to know exactly what is going on in my life. So here is my first blog, just to give u some information of what I am thinking about doing. So...I am thinking once a week I will give you my opinion on philly sports, and then another day I'll give you a taste of the world in sports. The rest of the time, will prob. be just talking about what has gone on in my day. If anyone has something they want me to talk about...just let me know. Especially with the sports. Any sports team you want me to talk about...just let me know. Im gonna try and put something up atleast everyday. Well this is the end of my first blog
